Below are steps to install the CNR Client depending on the distribution you're using.
Please select the distribution you're using below:
Freespire 2.0
Linspire 6.0
Linux Mint 4.0
Ubuntu 8.04
Ubuntu 7.10
Ubuntu 7.04

Freespire 2.0

Using the Download page:
  1. Open a browser (Firefox)
  2. Open Download CNR Client page
  3. Select Download Now for Freespire/Linspire
  4. Opening cnr-client dialog box is presented
  5. Select Save to Disk
  6. Using File Manager, move cnr-client file from desktop to directory under /home/~user (recommend new Downloads directory)
  7. From File Manager > Window > Show Terminal Emulator
  8. From the command prompt: sudo dpkg -i cnr-client_xxxx.deb
  9. Note: This might require downloading and installing dependencies via the native package installation system and running the command again. Steps 9 and 10 are not required if there are no errors.
  10. From the command prompt: sudo apt-get -f install
  11. From the command prompt: sudo dpkg -i cnr-client.deb

  12. Note: might require to logout of the account, then back into the account
Using apt-get:
Note: First 3 steps not required but recommended...
  1. Open a browser (Firefox)
  2. Additional Sources for sources.list
  3. Edit sources.list
    1. Programs > System > File Manager > Super User Mode
    2. Browse to /etc/apt Open sources.list (with text editor like Kate or KWrite)
    3. Copy Additional Sources to bottom of sources.list file
    4. Note: best is to copy all the sources listed under Freespire 2.0 Stable Sources and replaces the contents of the sources.list file.
    5. Save File
  4. Open Terminal Program (Programs > System), from the command prompt: sudo apt-get update
  5. Verify package available, from the command prompt: apt-cache showpkg cnr-client
  6. Note: output should display Provides: (the latest build number at the top)
  7. Install package, from the command prompt: sudo apt-get install cnr-client Note: This process will create a desktop CNR icon and a menu entry under Programs > System

Once CNR installs properly...
Open CNR:
From the CNR desktop icon or Programs> System > CNR - Opens browser
Note: Web Browser (lbrowser) is not properly set as the default browser, so open Control Center > KDE Components > Component Chooser > Web Browser (select konqueror Apply, then lbrowser Apply)

From an open browser: http://www.cnr.com/

  1. Select Install Now for any product that Freespire/ Linspire is a Supported Distribution (Product Specifications page)
  2. CNR Progress dialog box is presented
  3. Software Program is installed
Note: If the program has a desktop file, it will be listed under Programs CNR log available in /var/log/cnr.log for more information on the results

Linspire 6.0

The latest version of Linspire (6.0.15) comes pre-installed with the CNR Client. For those who have Linspire 6.0.0, you will need to manually install the CNR Client. To do so, please follow these instructions:

Instructions to download the CNR Client for Linspire 6.0.0

Using the Download page:
  1. Open a browser (Firefox)
  2. Open Download CNR Client page
  3. Right-click Download Now for Linspire 6.0.0, then select Save Link As...
  4. Select the user account home directory (one Up from the Desktop directory)
  5. Create Folder: Downloads (creating a new Downloads directory)
  6. Select Save
  7. From the Quick Launch Menu open File Manager, browse (Up) to the new Downloads directory, then select Window > Show Terminal Emulator to get to the command prompt
  8. Enter the following from the command prompt: sudo dpkg -i cnr-client_xxxx.deb
    Note: This might require downloading and installing dependencies via the native package installation system and running the command again. Steps 9 and 10 are not required if there are no errors.
  9. Enter the following from the command prompt: sudo apt-get -f install
  10. Enter the following from the command prompt: sudo dpkg -i cnr-client.deb

  11. Note: might require to logout of the account, then back into the account

  4. Select Download Now for Linux Mint

  6. Ensure Open with: GDebi Package Installer (default) is selected
  7. Downloads dialog box is presented (ignore)
  8. Package Installer: cnr-client dialog box is presented
  9. Select Install Package (will download and install additional packages dependencies as required)

Once CNR installs properly...
Open CNR:

Ubuntu 8.04

Note: The current version of the CNR Client only supports i386/32-bit OS architecture.


Using the Download page:
  1. Open a browser (Firefox)
  2. Download CNR Client page

Ubuntu 7.04

Using the Download page:
  1. Edit sources.list
    1. Open Terminal (Applications > Accessories)
    2. Open text editor enter the following from the command prompt: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
    3. Uncomment (remove the # sign) the following two lines to add software from the 'backports' repository.
      * deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
      * deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
    4. Save File
  2. Open a browser (Firefox)
  3. Download CNR Client page
  4. Select Download Now for Ubuntu
  5. Opening cnr-client dialog box is presented
  6. Ensure Open with: GDebi Package Installer (default) is selected
  7. Downloads dialog box is presented (ignore)
  8. Package Installer: cnr-client dialog box is presented
  9. Select Install Package (will download and install additional packages dependencies as required)

Note: requires logout of the account, then back into the account Using apt-get:

  8. Install keyring package, enter the following from the command prompt: sudo apt-get install freespire-archive-keyring
  9. Enter the following from the command prompt: sudo apt-get update

Once CNR installs properly...
Open CNR:
Applications > System Tools > CNR (Opens browser Firefox)

or

From an open browser: http://www.cnr.com/

  1. Select Install Now for any product that Ubuntu is a Supported Distribution (Product Specifications page)
